This is one strand of the film; the other is the German football team itself, seen partly through their abrasive-but-loveable coach, Sepp Herberger (Peter Franke), and partly through the eyes of a young sports reporter, Paul Ackermann (Lukas Gregorowicz), and his bubbly-wife, Annette (Katharina Wackernagel). Personally, I wouldn't know one end of a football from the other, but, even so, the chalk-board tactics, cod-homilies and enthusiasm for screw-in studs that peppered this tale of giant killing ( Hungary were the odds- on favourites) rang pretty true to me.
