Jessica puts the boot in

It was what you would have to call a show-stopping outfit. Hollywood star Jessica Simpson, wearing boots and a barely-there skirt, set a raunchy tone at an awards ceremony with her rendition of These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.

Simpson, who played Daisy Duke in The Dukes Of Hazzard, was among the winners at last night's 32nd annual People's Choice awards in Los Angeles. The hit tune, which was used on the film soundtrack, won the 25-year-old the award for favourite song in a movie.

Sandra Bullock was named favourite female movie star, while George Lucas's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith, won best film and best drama honours.

Reese Witherspoon was named favourite leading lady for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk The Line, the Johnny Cash film which is in the running for an Oscar. The Legally Blonde star risks injury if she

carries on lifting trophies at her current rate: she won a Critics' Choice award for the same role on Monday.

Accepting her trophy last night, the 29-year-old said: "You guys voted for us. Not the stuffy people in closed rooms - people who voted actually go to the movies."

The People's Choice awards are decided by online votes from fans, unlike other Hollywood honours given by industry and media groups.

For Lucas, the awards held special

significance because the six Star Wars films have had a mixed record with critics and award groups. "I'm not a big favourite with the critics, but who listens to them?" Lucas said onstage. "The reason I make films is for you. The audience rules."

Wedding Crashers took the comedy film award and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory was the favourite family film.

Jennifer Garner was named top female action star while Matthew McConaughey won favourite male action star. Brad Pitt was voted favourite leading man and Johnny Depp was favourite male movie star.
