Bloopers caught on film

It's set to be one of the most successful films in history but, just a few days after opening, the $80 million blockbuster Spiderman is being called one of the most gaffe-strewn films ever, with 86 continuity errors, putting it in the Bloopers Top 10.

There are disappearing backpacks, lamps that repair themselves and costumes that are both dirty and clean in a single fight scene. But Spiderman is not alone. Film anoraks have found glaring errors in everything from The Wizard Of Oz to the sci-fi hit The Matrix, which has 146 mistakes. So, what are the clangers you should watch out for next time you watch your favourite film?

Titanic (1997)

135 mistakes have been spotted so far, including:
a) when the ship is sinking, lovers Rose and Jack are running through the inside of the ship, but cameras and crew are visible outside the window.
b) As passengers clamber onto a lifeboat, one person is wearing a digital watch, not available in 1912.
c) When the elderly Rose first hears that her portrait has been recovered, the camera crew is reflected on the TV screen.
d) In the scene where Jack and Rose are "fly-ing", there is a beautiful sunset. But the sun is setting in the south whereas, on a journey from Britain to New York, it should be setting in the west.
e) The best Titanic gaffe - the captain stirs a cup of tea, which still contains a teabag, which wasn't invented until the Fifties. Worse, the teabag is round, a late 20th century invention.

Annie Hall (1977)

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

A man loses his right arm, looks around for it and picks up a left arm.

Star Wars (1977)

A storm trooper almost knocks himself unconscious by smacking his head on a door frame. Also, when our hero Luke returns to the rebels after ridding the galaxy of the Death Star, he is greeted by the princess, played by Carrie Fisher. "Luke!" she calls. "Carrie!" he replies.

The Maltese Falcon (1941)

Bogart's bow-tie changes from spots to stripes as he slaps Peter Lorre.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

As Arnie is stabbed in slow motion, the rubber knife bends.

Pearl Harbor (2001)

As Kate Beckinsale's character Evelyn enters Pearl Harbor, set in 1941, there is a tall building that clearly says "Est. 1953."

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Full of gaffes.
a) when the witch disappears into a cloud of smoke she creates, you can clearly see her sneak down into a trap-door below.
b) During the Tin Man's dance, you can see a stagehand trying to hide behind the flimsy tree props.
c) When Dorothy meets the Scarecrow her pigtails start short, get longer, then shorter, then long again.
d) When the guard tells Dorothy that she may not see the wizard, he starts crying - but the tears come not from his eyes, but from above his eyebrows.

Gladiator (2000)

As Maximus walks in to the army camp, he feeds a horse a piece of apple. Between him and the horse is a crewman wearing jeans. Also, the horsemen have saddles and stirrups, which had not been invented in Roman times.

Jurassic Park (1993)

In an early scene, while Samuel L Jackson's character is struggling to get the computers working, he is smoking a cigarette. At first, it is a full cigarette, then half, then full again.

Independence Day (1996)

In one scene, Jeff Goldblum hands the president the same piece of paper three times. Then, when he and Judd Hirsch are playing chess, the radio says it's 97 degrees outside. Yet both men are dressed as if it were winter.

Hannibal (2001)

Julianne Moore's earrings change from studs to hoops three times in one sequence.

The Matrix (1999)

When Laurence Fishburne fights the agent in a bathroom, the agent punches through a brick wall. Next time we see the wall, there is no damage.
