It's all heart-warming, but weak tea compared with the firewater of, say, Fred Schepisi's 1978 drama, The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, based on Thomas Keneally's novel about an angry half-caste boy who's been fed mission-station lies that he has a stake in white society-Disillusioned, Jimmie retaliatesbloodily: Rabbit-Proof Fence, in comparison, is the passive response of female stamina. Good as far as it goes, but it doesn't go very far.
