The all-important special effects for Black Sheep were done in part by world-leaders WETA, Peter Jackson's Wellington-based facility. "We approached them very early on and they said, 'Yes, we like it; we'd love to be part of it,' which was a fantastic vote of confidence, because the first thing people would say was, 'Well, it looks neat, but how on Earth are you going to do it?' But we also decided that it was right for the film to be more of a physical-effects thing - it's quite old-fashioned in that respect. An English guy called Dave Elsey - he'd just come off Revenge of the Sith, for which he was nominated for an Oscar - did that side of things. I mean, I love those films like Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead, that old-fashioned approach. But there's also some really state-of-the-art stuff in Black Sheep."
