Antonio's bottom line

Angelina Jolie is a fantastic actress. She is so easy to work with. I don't remember her doing these types of sex scenes in her movies, though I think she had one in Gia [TV movie based on the life of Seventies supermodel Gia Marie Carangi].

We did discuss the scenes together. We had a rehearsal period in Mexico, prior to shooting the movie. I didn't find any problems with her. She definitely knew what she was doing. Angelina is a natural.

All that you see is the real me. I didn't use a body double. That is my real butt! That's me! I didn't have so many problems, the film was so dramatic and intense that I felt those sex scenes were necessary.

There's a scene when I find Julia after she escapes for the first time, which is a very dramatic moment. I'm drinking scotch in the scene, and I was actually completely drunk - for real.

I had asked the director [Michael Cristofer, who also made Gia] if I could experience something that I had never done before. I got my lines completely down. Then I drank Spanish wine. I gobbled the glasses down one after the other, and then we did the scene. I was in control all the time. All I remember is being very drunk, but being completely in control. I knew my lines, I knew where we were, what we were doing. I remember asking for another bottle and someone whispering, 'Don't give him any more!'

However, the problem was when we had finished shooting that scene, and the director comes to me and says, 'We have to reshoot the scene when Julia's sister comes to your office - and she's telling you that Julia is not really her sister.'

I slurred, 'What are you talking about?' And so we had to repeat it. I then had, like, 15 minutes to go to my trailer, shave, shower and get completely sober. It doesn't look like I'm drunk in that scene, though. I was so worried about all those things. Trying to bring as much reality as I could to the character and trying to define him. I was so there, that doesn't feel like work to me.
