It was the tackiest night of the year but spoof gangsta rapper Ali G won "respec'" last night when he launched the movie that one critic has called the "most obnoxious British film ever". Ali G Indahouse received rave reviews from fans and celebrities alike and even his own parents declared: "He's the boss".

The "Staines massive" creator - aka 31-year-old Sacha Baron Cohen - turned up for the Leicester Square premiere of the crude and irreverent movie in a jewel-studded crown and 30ft long velvet cape, plus six "bitches" clad only in fabric marijuana leaves to cover their modesty.

The notoriously secretive actor dragged along an impressive crowd, while scores of other semi-naked women also managed to crash the film debut and after-show party where Baron Cohen was joined by girlfriend Isla Fisher, formerly of Australian soap Home and Away.

Kellie Bright, who plays his girlfriend in the film, was less than impressed by his character's antics in the movie, saying: "He's hardly a good boyfriend while he's an MP in the film."

Sacha's mother and father, Gerald and Daniella, said: "We're so proud of our son. You must remember, he's the boss and although we have had a great night, we're not allowed to say we have, unless we have okayed it with Sacha.

"He's obviously over-protective over his family. His private life is very important to him. We are both very proud of him and his brother Erran. And, yes, we had a great night."

Baron Cohen, who revealed in the movie that Ali G was short for Alistair Lesley Graham, added: "I must thank Working Title Films for this. They forked out £12 million for the movie. And £11.5 million went into that café in Amsterdam. "

Speaking of his role in the film and what he would do if he became MP for Staines, the Cambridge graduate said: "I would re-name Berkshire as Booyakasha and Great Britain as "wicked Britain", plus I'd get rid of Wales completely, and hopefully swap it for half of Jamaica."

The party at The Mayfair club in Soho was an extravagant affair. Guests included Callum Best, Jonathan Ross, boyband Blue, EastEnder Tamsin Outhwaite, Kate Thornton, Neil and Christine Hamilton, Jordan, Naomi Campbell, Kym Marsh and Suzanne Shaw from Hear'Say and actors Sir Michael Gambon and Charles Dance.

Comedian Harry Enfield said: "I'm a very big fan. He's just so cool and the humour is really on my level. Speaking as a bald and ageing parent, of course I think Ali G is a terrible influence on children."
