007 'in need of protection'

James Bond should be shown unwrapping a condom before he takes his next conquest to bed, say doctors who worry that films encourage drugs and unsafe sex.

Movies show a world in which Aids does not exist and the dangers of taking drugs are completely ignored, they argue.

The doctors say 007 is one of the worst culprits and should wear protection in bed.

He should also sometimes do the unimaginable and turn a woman down to reduce his chances of catching a STD.

The doctors, led by Dr Hasantha Gunasekera from Sydney University, reviewed 87 adult-rated movies released since the HIV was discovered in 1983. They showed 53 sex scenes but in only one did the character suggest using a condom.

Movies also portrayed taking non-injected drugs in a positive light, with more than half failing to show any negative effects.

'The industry should be urged to depict safer sex practices,' the experts wrote in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.
