Preview: Chanel's Little Black Jacket exhibition

If you know your fashion, chances are this exhibition won’t have passed you by. One of Coco Chanel’s greatest legacies, the little black jacket, is coming to Chelsea's Saatchi Gallery in the form of a carefully curated exhibition.

The legendary French fashion designer’s iconic piece has, since its conception in 1954, become a treasured wardrobe classic for women all over the world. Almost every new Chanel collection features a variation of the timeless jacket, and now the label’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, along with former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, has curated a photographic exhibition that opens this Friday (October 12) to celebrate the Coco LBJ.

Among those modelling the piece for the exhibition are actresses Tilda Swinton and Kirsten Dunst, as well as Brit model Edie Campbell and Puerto Rican supermodel Joan Smalls. Shot by Lagerfeld himself and consisting of 113 images, the project started as a coffee table book, ‘The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's classic revisited’, which is available to buy if you want to take a piece of the exhibition home with you.

The exhibition is part-way through its world tour, and is only stopping at the Saatchi for two weeks. Make sure you hotfoot it there to see the label’s most iconic item in all its glory.
