Gold: Power and Allure, Goldsmith's Hall

A landmark exhibition is taking place in Goldsmith's Hall this summer that won't fail to bring some sparkle into your life.

"Gold, Power and Allure" aims to tell the rich story of Britain and its relationship with gold, through a display of more than 400 gold items and artefacts.

The historical works of art have been borrowed from collections across the globe and range in date from as early as 2500BC to the present day, and show how the precious metal has influenced our lives.

These rarely before seen items will be exhibited beside two brand new commissions, allowing the old to contrast with a modern approach to the medium.

The World Gold Council, who sponsor the exhibition, have commissioned works by artists Wright & Teague and Polly Gasston.

Wright & Teague's piece is a narrative of the Lunula, featuring seven collars representing the seven sisters of the constellation of Taurus.

Polly Gasston has created a delicate tiara moulded like ivy leaves woven with golden buttercups.

The exhibition runs until July 28 at Goldsmith's Hall, Foster Lane, EC2V 6BN, the goldsmiths.co.uk
