Alexander the Great stage show comes to the British Library

She said: “Alexander the Great transcends cultures, faiths, and races. He appears as a prophet of God in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic texts: he inspires as a hero, even a god, whether battling mythical foxes, meeting the Amazons or making the journey to the Underworld.

“This time the narrative is framed around the dreams of the philosopher Aristotle, who pushes his pupil Alexander, and the audience, in and out of fantasy worlds that challenge his thinking as a leader.

“Multiple characters come forward, showing that being a hero is not only about bravery and martial prowess, but also moral integrity, intelligence and compassion.”

The show also features music and visual art to tell the story.

The library is also currently home to a major exhibition - Alexander the Great: The Making of a Myth - which runs to February 19.

Among the 140 exhibits gathered from 25 countries are clay tablets and ancient scrolls as well as videogames and graphic novels inspired by Alexander.
