Monarch said Sir Roy retired as chairman at the time of Greybull’s £100 million rescue deal in November 2014.
Sir Roy told the Standard: “I agreed to stay on for a time as a non- executive director. We agreed earlier this year that this arrangement would end this summer.” McNulty was deputy chair of the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Monarch thanked the veteran aviation boss for “kindly stay[ing] on as a non-executive director until recently and wish him and his wife a long and happy retirement”.
The private equity owners of Luton-based Monarch are considering selling the troubled airline to the Chinese, holding talks with HNA Group, the owner of Hainan Airlines.
A sale would raise new concerns about China’s influence over major UK businesses and infrastructure, after the Government expressed reservations over Chinese involvement in the £18 billion Hinkley Point nuclear plant.
