"While the support schemes in operation are providing significant support to the economy, there are some sectors and companies who are fundamentally sound businesses and were trading positively before the pandemic.

Shadow chancellor Anneliese Dodds added: “We have been urging the Government to face up to the challenges faced by many manufacturers during this crisis, not least because they have often been unable to access sufficient loan-based support.
“Manufacturing firms are often anchors of their local economies, not just directly but also through their supply chains.
“Although Government has signalled it may potentially be willing to provide equity in some situations, it lacks a strategic approach.”
A Government spokeswoman said: “Manufacturing is hugely important to the UK and will have an essential role to play as we recover from the coronavirus outbreak. The Government has put together a far-reaching package of support to help businesses through the coronavirus pandemic.
“We continue to regularly engage with businesses across all sectors, including those in the steel, aerospace and automotive industries.”
