Sports Direct renews interest in BHS stores and brand

Sports Direct has contacted administrators for collapsed retailer BHS expressing an interest in buying some of the chain's stores and its brand.

"We can confirm that we have a continued interest in BHS and that we have written to the administrator seeking to reopen a dialogue about saving a number of jobs and stores, along with the BHS name," a spokesman said.

Mike Ashley's sporting goods retailer was one of around 10 bidders in the running for BHS but administrators Duff & Phelps concluded earlier this month that no viable offer had been submitted for the 88-year-old department store business.

About 11,000 jobs at the company, which is also carrying a £571 million pension deficit, were put at risk as a result.

Last week the owner of BHS, Retailer Acquisitions, which bought BHS last year from Sir Philip Green for just £1 faced a grilling from MPs over his management of the business.
