Sky's SkyQ set-top box likely to lift subscription prices, analysts say

Sky’s launch of its Sky Q all-singing, all-dancing wireless set-top boxes could prove the boost it needs to push subscription prices up, analysts believe.

Sky Q allows customers to watch more programmes — live, downloaded or on demand — on different types of devices in different rooms in the house at the same time.

Programmes can be stored to watch on tablets outside the home.

It also lets Sky broadband customers turn their set-top boxes into wi-fi hubs.

David Mercer of Strategy Analytics said today that the service could help to push the highest Sky TV subscription through £100, from today’s maximum £87.
