The proliferation of workplace retirement savings accounts brought in by laws requiring employers to sign workers up automatically created a buzz around Pension Bee. Its founder and CEO, Romi Savova, embarked on her mission to take the sting out of managing multiple pensions in 2014 after becoming frustrated when trying to do so herself.

Offering a super-quick sign up, the platform will track down customers’ pensions and encourage them to put them in one place and increase contributions on a new aggregated plan managed by BlackRock and State Street.

Born into Communist Bulgaria, Savova remembers long queues and a common struggle to make ends meet. A self-described life-long saver, her success means she can now splurge on her children. The former Goldman Sachs banker still has an eye for a bargain. After the crash in Spanish real estate values, she invested in property in her husband’s part of the country.

Holding an MBA from Harvard Business School, she also worked for Morgan Stanley and Credit Benchmark. Savova invests in the Pension Bee tailored plan, that moves into safer investments as you get older.
