The net result is that complaints will take weeks or even months to be resolved. Which is the fault of financial firms dealing with complaints inadequately.
Other than PPI, the area currently generating most complaints is credit cards. And last year and this, three-fifths of complaints were upheld by the Ombudsman, suggesting that credit cards may be the next big mis-selling scandal.
But to stop poor complaints handling, financial firms should be fined if complaints are upheld. That would help stop them using their delaying tactics.
The dreadful service we've received - from banks in particular in recent years - has turned many of us into complainers, which is a good thing. People power will force financial firms to get their acts together and treat us fairly. And that can't come soon enough.
