BG Group, 22p better at 1186p, has won consent under New Zealand law to complete the acquisition of Origin Energy. This is subject to confidential conditions.
Last week, BG said Origin's response to its bid "lacks any substance or clarity", and added that it remains confident its offer represents full and fair value for Origin's shareholders. Origin has rejected its A$13.6 billion ($6.3 billion) hostile offer.
News of a bid approach lifted Highway Insurance 14¼p to 64p. Panmure Gordon says it could be Admiral or French insurer Axa. Others vulnerable to bidders include Novae, up 6¼p at 303¼p, and Hardy, unmoved on 214p.
Micap has requested its shares be suspended on AIM at 0.37p pending clarification of its financial position. After an abortive acquisition, higher-than-expected professional advisory fees have left the natural food ingredients supplier with enough funds for only one to three months.
