Lockdown 3: The shops and businesses that can stay open and those closing

OPEN

*Supermarkets: People are allowed to leave home to buy things at ‘essential’ shops such as grocers. This means firms such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco can keep branches open.

*Other essential retail allowed includes pharmacies, garden centres, building merchants and suppliers of building products and off-licences.

*Market stalls selling essential retail.

*Businesses providing repair services.

*Petrol stations, automatic (but not manual) car washes, vehicle repair and MOT services, bicycle shops, and taxi and vehicle hire  firms.

 *Banks.

*Post offices.

*Funeral directors

*Laundrettes and dry cleaners.

*GP and dental surgeries.

 *Vets and retailers that sell products linked to animal welfare.

 *Agricultural supplies shops

 *Mobility and disability support shops

 *Storage and distribution  sites.

 *Estate agents and removals firms can continue to work.  

  CLOSED

* ‘Non-essential’ retail has to shut, except for click and collect or deliveries.

This includes a raft of different retailers, such as clothing and homeware stores, vehicle showrooms , betting shops, vape stores, auction houses and more.

*Hospitality venues such as restaurants and pubs. They are allowed to  provide food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway (until 11pm),  and deliveries.

*Leisure centres, gyms, and golf courses.

*Entertainment venues such as theatres, concert venues, casinos and bowling alleys.

 *Personal care facilities such as hair, beauty, tanning and nail salons. Tattoo parlours, spas, and massage parlours are also closed.

The current guidance remains to work from home where you can, but employers are likely to give staff access to offices if they are unable to work at home for certain reasons.
