The bigger issue for a Diamond takeover is that he has a Kilimanjaro-sized mountain to climb if he’s going to get this deal done.
So far his African banking conglomerate, Atlas Mara, has focused on little deals and is currently worth between a fifth and a sixth of the Barclays businesses he’s eyeing up.
Perhaps he could phone Amanda Staveley and ask her to raise the funds from the Middle East. Or maybe not. Given her current legal claim that Barclays never ponied up her commission last time around, I doubt she’s taking his calls.
