Jim Armitage: Richard Caring is entitled to privacy

I hate to come over all reasonable amid the excitement around BHS, but surely perma-tanned non-dom Richard Caring has a right to keep details of his BHS share sale to Lady Green private. After all, it was 10 years ago.

It’s hard to believe the sale of a 22% stake in the company back then caused its collapse today.

And the pension fund? The black hole only yawned open much later as low gilt yields ate into the pot.

That’s not to say Caring’s symbiotic relationship with Sir Philip isn’t fascinating: it’s really interesting to see how the former’s clothes manufacturing business got £169 million of orders from BHS between 2003 and 2015.

But the fact it’s interesting doesn’t mean it must be in the public interest.
