Indesit and Hotpoint tumble dryers could pose a fire risk, customers told
Owners of Indesit, Creda and Hotpoint tumble dryers have been warned of a possible fire risk with their machines.
A problem could occur if excess fluff comes into contact with the heating element, Indesit, part of the Whirlpool Corporation, said.
The company estimates that a "significant number" of the almost 30 million machines in UK households could be affected.
It has begun a safety campaign to remedy the issue.
It applies to those who bought all three brands' dryers between April 2004 and October 2015.
They have been urged to contact Indesit if they have not already had their appliances repaired.
The company will then arrange a service visit and the necessary modifications.
Customers have been told they can still operate their machine while they await an upgrade but are recommended not to leave it unattended while in operation.
They should also check the filter after every cycle, they company added.
A dedicated website has been set up for customers involved.
