HP to axe 25,000 to 30,000 jobs

Hewlett-Packard has announced plans to axe yet more jobs, with between 25,000 to 30,000 roles in its enterprise department in the firing line.

The cuts come in addition to the 55,000 jobs that HP previously said would go.

The enterprise business, which will be split from the computer and printer business later this year, contains the hardware and services operations and is the company's faster growing arm.

Boss Meg Whitman said the latest headcount reductions would be the last under its current strategy to revive the company's fortunes.

"We've done a significant amount of work over the past few years to take costs out and simplify processes and these final actions will eliminate the need for any future corporate restructuring," Whitman said in a statement.

The job cuts are designed to save $2.7 billion a year, but will trigger a charge of the same amount, which will be reflected in results from HP's fourth quarter onward.
