The days of the trillion-dollar company may be long past, for in the autumn first Apple then Amazon broke through that barrier. Actually now it is Microsoft that was back to the number one spot at Friday’s close with a market capitalisation of $822 billion. Amazon is just behind at $817 billion, followed by Alphabet at $762 billion and Apple down to $746 billion. Facebook is now worth $428 billion. By way of comparison, HSBC, Britain’s and Europe’s largest bank, is capitalised at £128 billion, or $169 billion.
