Bason said the group was very encouraged by early trading at its two new stores in France, its third store in the US and first store in Italy just northwest of Milan. Another two stores will open in the US in the final quarter.
Bason also said that ABF and Primark should benefit from the immediate fall in the pound against the dollar and euro since half their revenues were not in sterling.
Primark reported a 7% rise in sales for both the latest quarter and the first three quarters with April hit hard by cold weather across most of northern Europe. Analysts said same-store sales appeared to have fallen around 2% to 3% in the third quarter against a 1% decline in the first half.
