The company said the £80 million sale, which will see 3,000 people leave the business, was on track and the CMA was due to give its verdict by 19 October. Muller has offered to sell some of its milk output to a third party to reduce competition concerns.
Dairy Crest chief executive Mark Allen, who is in line for a controversial £1.2 million award based largely on the sale – said the deal was in the best interests of the whole dairy sector, which was suffering from low returns.
The company said that in the meantime “we continue to do everything we can to support our farmers who are facing a particularly tough time at present”.
