Curzon to open ‘landmark’ five-screen cinema inside Camden’s Hawley Wharf development

Curzon has signed a deal to open a "landmark" new 6,000 sq ft cinema in Camden's upcoming Hawley Wharf complex in a sign of optimism for the hard-hit leisure sector.

The new five-screen multiplex - designed by Takero Shimazaki and "inspired by New York jazz bars" - will form part of the canal-side development, which is owned by billionaire entrepreneur Teddy Sagi’s investment firm LabTech. It is set to open this autumn with 150 stores, 60 food outlets, and 195 apartments.

Each cinema screen will seat 30 people, in the cinema’s traditional small-scale style.

Curzon chief executive, Philip Knatchbull, said: “We are thrilled to be launching our latest landmark cinema within the dynamic Hawley Wharf Camden development, taking a tangible plot of Camden’s history.

“Last summer we worked with LabTech on a successful pop-up cinema in the heart of Camden Market, so we know the demand is there. The railway arches are a unique space, and we are confident it will become a much-loved destination for film lovers.”
