If Zuckerberg is selling soft soap, it wouldn’t be for the first time but it could be the last. There is no question that Facebook needs to provide more privacy and it needs to stop the misuse of its platforms by criminals, but the problem is that it will find that very difficult to do while protecting what is a private money-printing machine: Facebook takes our valuable property and sells it to others. If it fails to deal with this problem, consumer regulators, such as the FTC and the European Commission, will soon demand Facebook pay its platform users.
