Capital & Counties eyes Clapham Junction for next stop

Earls Court property developer Capital & Counties is eyeing a redevelopment at Clapham Junction station for its next major London project, it has emerged.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are currently in the very early stages of working with Capco to look into the redevelopment of Clapham Junction station, the busiest passenger interchange station in Britain, as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan.”

Gary Yardley, managing director of Capco told Property Week magazine: “It’s very much early days in terms of the scale, the cost, the planning and the funding situation, but we know that the development around the station has got to be right for London.”

There are no details of what would be built, but typically flats, shops and offices have surrounded stations.

Real estate giant Capco and Network Rail first teamed up in May 2015 on a joint venture to look at redeveloping some of the capital’s stations.

Capco is currently transforming Earls Court with thousands of new flats, while it has been praised for bringing a number of high-profile retailers and restaurants to its Covent Garden estate.
