So we are left with Canada. Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, agrees that dressing Britain up in a Canada Goose down jacket is the only option left. He is offering Britain a free trade agreement, similar to Ceta, the deal recently signed by Canada and the EU. David Davis, the Brexit Secretary, is ready to run with this option but he talks about “Canada plus plus plus”, meaning that he wants much more, notably free trade in services, in particular access by UK financial firms to the Single Market.
