Rangers board reshuffle as director quits

Troubled Scottish football club Rangers today parted ways with another director as its shake-up influenced by Sports Direct billionaire Mike Ashley continues.

The fallen giant, whose manager Ally McCoist is under pressure after embarrassing cup defeat to part-time Alloa Athletic last week, said former investment banker Norman Crighton has left its board.

Crighton joined last November to take charge of an “investment committee” at the club and it is unclear why he is leaving his post.

In recent months, Rangers’ board has been overhauled by retail billionaire Mike Ashley, who has appointed Derek Llambias — the former Newcastle United managing director — and Sports Direct executive Barry Leach as director as well as handing the club two loans.

Ashley at present owns 8.92% of Rangers and is not allowed to own more than 9% because he already owns Premier League club Newcastle United.
