Boris bike lights snapped up by New York scheme

The London tech start-up behind the new green laser lights on Boris bikes, has clinched a contract in New York.

Blaze, backed by Pembroke VCT, will fit the lights into 250 of the Citi-sponsored cycles used in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.

That’s a small slice of the 10,000 bikes available in New York, but the deal could be expanded.

The pilot programme aims to make Citi Bike riders more visible to drivers and pedestrians. London bus drivers say Blaze’s Laserlight makes Boris bike cyclists far more visible.

Jay Walder of Motivate which operates the Citi Bike and its 600 New York stations, said: “We aim to keep New Yorkers on foot, behind the wheel and riding a Citi Bike safer.”
