Boost for UK education tech start-up after Pembroke venture capital backing

A UK tech start-up which allows parents and teachers to get “fast feedback” on pupils’ performance has won backing from a top London venture capital firm.

Kinteract, based in London and Banbury, has clinched investment from Andrew Wolfson’s Pembroke VCT, part of Oakley Capital, valuing it at £4.25 million.

The online platform offers a portable learning record for children and gives real-time feedback on schoolwork to identify any issues early on.

Kinteract is in about 80 schools, including 10 in the UK such as Dulwich College and Sydenham School, with 140,000 pupil accounts.

It was co-founded by Shehzad Najib, who in 2002 became, at 21, the youngest person to found a school in the UK when he set up the AMS School in North Oxfordshire.

Pembroke VCT, based in Chelsea, backs a number of firms including the Five Guys burger chain, Alexa Chung's fashion label, Boom Cycle and Sourced Market.
