In March last year, they started a similar partnership to develop and commercialise a breast cancer treatment called Enhertu.
Soriot added: “We are delighted to enter this new collaboration with Daiichi Sankyo and to build on the successful launch of Enhertu to further expand our pipeline and leadership in oncology.”
AstraZeneca shares rose 26p at 8678p, adding to its 13% rise so far this year. The company’s share price has been boosted by its partnership with Oxford University to develop a coronavirus vaccine.
Elsewhere in the pharma world AIM listed Novacyt was also making gains after the drug company said it plans to launch more coronavirus testing kits.
Novacyt has become a stock market darling because of its status as a leading supplier of Covid-19 tests used in laboratories.
It had previously developed tests for zika, ebola and sars.
The company has most of its operations in the UK and manufactures the Covid-19 tests in Southampton.
