Aston Martin and Red Bull in F1 and ‘hypercar’ alliance
Aston Martin is to make a return to Formula One after a more than 50-year absence from the sport.
The comeback comes through a partnership with Red Bull which will also see the duo collaborate on a new "hypercar" designed to "represent the ultimate blend of cutting edge F1 technology with Aston Martin’s signature sports car design".
The pair announced the deal in the run-up to the Australian Grand Prix, where Aston Martin’s wings logo will appear on the Red Bull team’s RB12 cars.
It is part of a season-long agreement in which Aston Martin will work on the design and production of the Formula One cars.
Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s chief technical officer, is to work with Aston Martin’s design boss Marek Reichman on the superfast road car, dubbed Project AM-RB-001.

Aston Martin chief executive Dr Andy Palmer said: "Formula One offers the ultimate global stage to build wider awareness of the Aston Martin brand. However, this partnership will deliver even more than that when the hypercar that Aston Martin and Adrian Newey are in the process of developing hits the road."
Aston Martin, though famous for its sportscars, has only been involved briefly in Formula One before, in 1959-60.
