The Brexiteers think that will be fine and we will trade with World Trade Organisation rules. It won’t be fine, because the WTO is in disarray, we will still have not settled the Irish border, and the disruption will be huge. All this is causing a lot of stress for the regulators. The Financial Conduct Authority has been good at what it can control, but utterly useless about engaging with the EU. It has been good at making non- British companies continue to be welcome here, but it has been much less successful in getting British firms to continue to have access to the EU. Indeed there is no agreement on any access to the EU side, other than in saying British firms will have to comply with EU regulations.
