Smoky eyes are bang on trend this season, notably with Sophie Webster’s “gothic girly" - inspired blown-out smoky eye and brushed up, over-the-top eyebrows.
DAKS make-up artist Maria Comparetto found her inspiration from Victorian times to create a dramatic smoky eye, while Lucia Pieroni went for a more subtle finish at Alexander McQueen.
“The smoky eye is making a real comeback this season,” says pro make-up artist Val Garland, who patiently created a velvety-matte feline eye with a mixture of liquid liner, eye shadow and gold pigment at the Julien Macdonald show. “I want the eye to look like black velvet,” says Garland.
Alexander McQueen’s collection was set in London’s Royal Horticultural Society and make-up artist Lucia Pieroni continued the smoky update, taking inspiration from a “walk in a moonlit garden”.
She created a sooty, smudgy eye by using a RMS eye polish to give a rich, sheer metallic glow and unique finish. “The look is surreal, beautiful and fabulous, there’s an element of fantasy,” she says.
DAKS, on the other hand, went for a much heavier look with dramatic heavy eyes, contouring along the cheekbones and paired with a side-parted glossy chignon.
